Here are some of San Diego's top courses that deserve a spot on your golfing bucket list.


Torrey Pines – North & South Courses

Let's start with the crown jewel of San Diego golf. Torrey Pines is iconic, and if you’re a golf fan, you’ve probably imagined yourself sinking a birdie on the 18th hole to win the U.S. Open. Well, at Torrey Pines, you can live out that fantasy! Host of the annual Farmers Insurance Open and multiple U.S. Opens, including Tiger Woods’ unforgettable 2008 win, the South Course is famous for its beauty and challenge.

The South Course is known to be more difficult, but both the North and South courses offer stunning ocean views and fantastic layouts. If the South Course is booked up or feels too intimidating, the North Course is equally beautiful and often more relaxed—and let’s not forget, it’s easier on your wallet. Personally, I find the North Course just as enjoyable, if not more at times.


Aviara Golf Club

We can’t mention professional golf without bringing up Aviara, the home of the LPGA's Kia Classic. Located just 30 minutes north of downtown San Diego, Aviara offers lush fairways, immaculate course conditions, and a solid challenge for any golfer. While the views here might not rival Torrey Pines, the layout and course quality easily make up for it. Aviara is a top-tier course, and one of the best in San Diego County.


Encinitas Ranch

This one’s my personal favorite! Encinitas Ranch features breathtaking ocean views, challenging holes, and it’s always in great condition. Whether you're a seasoned golfer or a beginner, this course offers a mix of easy and challenging holes that keep you on your toes. You’ll have holes that make you lose sleep the night before and others that leave you itching to tee off. Play a twilight round here, and you’re likely to be treated to a stunning sunset over the Pacific. It’s truly a magical experience.


Coronado Municipal Golf Course

Looking for a course with some serious scenery? Coronado Municipal Golf Course is right on the water, offering views of the Coronado Bridge, San Diego Bay, and the iconic Hotel Del Coronado. It’s a public course with a resort-like feel, and the views alone are worth booking a tee time. Whether you’re there for the golf or the surroundings, it’s an experience every golfer should try at least once.


The Vineyard at Escondido

If you’re craving a course with a different vibe, head north to Escondido. The Vineyard offers scenic views of wetlands, mountains, and challenging elevation changes. Hole 14, with the wind in your face, will test even the best golfers! It’s a peaceful escape from the city, and if you’re in North County, this course should be on your radar. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
